I hope that neither of you Visa engine owners have bought a lightened Visa flywheel off Ebay recently, particularly if the vendor was in the Doncaster area.

I think the technique Cats describes of substituting part of the visa bellhousing, also requires the corresponding part of the 2cv bellhousing to be removed, so the overall length remains the same.

yes he came up with that before the Germans came up with that design.

Neil,
not 'the usual suspect', but someone who decided to sell a flywheel after I'd condemned it as scrap metal.
Machining of the engine side had been taken straight down, to less than the diameter of the mounting on the crankshaft, so it was barely 3mm thick near its hub.
Also, so much metal had been taken off at the outer edge of the 3 slots that the ring gear was virtually self-supporting.
Not sure which bit will let go first, but the result isn't going to be pretty either way...

( @ Dyane1976.
Same opinion of those adaptors for 123.
Even when the expander bolt had been tightened as much as possible, the grip was feeble.
Constantly variable timing?
Luckily, I'm having nothing more to do with this particular project. )

Hi Ken
I note your comments about the adapter for fitting the 123 Evo and also your photo of your Visa engine, how did you solve the ignition problem then. and is the adaptor a waste of time?

What I did with the adapter was drill 2 small holes (oposite to each other to balance it) and used a small alan key though the hole to the alan bolt below) to hold it in place when you tightened the centre nut. Otherwise the thing rotates as you tighten it. Make sure you tighten the 123 unit in the centre of the engine space (there is no lip as per on the 602 engine to hold it in correct place. If you do not tighten in the correct place the little pegs on the adpater could hit the little alan bolts on the 123 unit.

I think you will find the bracket that clamps between the gear box is 5mm thick it works well and lets you keep the visa ring on the flywheel and then you can use the visa starter motor ,,,no machining needed, simples

I've dug out my bracket and measured it. (It's different to the Burton one in the image that I posted previously).
You're right: it is 5mm thick.
Thanks very much.
