You may be able to fashion something or just weld the blade to a small bit of steel plate.

I often file the manifold flanges to restore flatness, also on the heads
smear of copper grease on the faces to stop the gaskets burning in to the head again

as Gerry knows when i re build an engine it smokes a little bit

Maybe of interest to someone ; I've got some of these 'nordlock' washer things from trying them out on a perpetual exhaust coming loose situation on an alu cylinder tuned Lambretta , we use them at work to lock x-ray tubes in place ,(although unfortunately only in 10mm :| ) ,i'm going to try them on the inlet and outlet bolts and studs .
Couldn't get 7mm but nearest is 1/4" unc which is 7.2mm

http://www.engservfast.co.uk/product_de ... f=Nordlock

Not sure but probably a bit OTT for the application ,still, i've got some so might as well.

Here's the speel- "Nord-Lock is a pair of washers with a wedge -locking action meeting DIN 25 201 which is a unique method using tension instead of friction. The rise of the cams between the two Nord-Lock washers is greater than the pitch of the bolt. In addition, there are radial teeth on the opposite side. When the bolt and/or nut is tightened, the teeth grip the mating surfaces.
The Nord-Lock washer is locked in place, allowing movement only across the face of the cams. The tension created makes the bolt/nut self locking so it cannot move."

Well all back to together and running, burning off all the grease and oil residue . I managed to kind of get the manifold flanges onto my 'surface plate' and tidy them up while awkwardly holding them. The flanges on the heads aren't as neat but i scraped them up as best i could without taking the heads off and so far so good .
Cheers for replies to silly reassurance questions  :P
I was surprised the valve clearances had closed up a fair bit in 7000 miles or so since i last did them.. :|

7.2 would be ideal for m7 thread, head studs are m8 on 2cv
