Umm,
thought I remembered something about the different formulations of fuel used in the USA in Winter, which might be relevant...

"Another major property in [reformulated winter gasoline] is the use of oxygen-bearing ether compounds like MTBE, ETBE (ethyl tertiary butyl ether) and ethanol."

'And as for fuel economy and price? When did that ever get in the way of having a good time behind the wheel? It s just too bad we have to deal with all that snow and ice".'

Mine has done the same, always been fuel related. trouble is, it's been a right pain and I've had to change a head, gone back to a standard carb, I've gone from 123 to points, changed plugs blah blah blah just because I've had no end of problems this last week. The muff will deffinatly help, maybe a couple caps of redex just to clear it out a bit?

I wouldn't use redex can damage carbs ..or was that cats i cant remember in which case wouldn't count :? :D either way apparently it's useless :?: What fuel you using, tesco??

Maybe letting the engine run a few minutes before driving may help. When it was snowy last year (ok you don't go super fast in the snow) but I ran the engine for a few mins to let it warm up a bit

Post Re: no power
Its more complicated than that
Its to do with the amount the fuel cools the air inside the carb( and the formula of the petrol may have something to do with it), the speed of the air and the amount of water vapour in the charge

usually occurs at a low engine speed on damp foggy days.

Redex should be fine - it's supposed to clean the "varnish" formed in carbs. among other things.

The car is run on either Shell, BP or Esso - it's never set foot in a Tesco car park - it was coming back from Waitrose when it had this little episode  .

And thank you squeezebox for the suggestion of the bike - I cycle 18miles a day commuting but it's hard to get a case of wine on the pannier rack, hence the 2CV (or C5) :)
