Then the jets are blocked. Take them all out and blow them clean. Voila

Lungs are no good, you need to get some compressed air on them. If it fires up dribbling petrol down the carb you can discount all ignition issues.

I bet Steve took his glasses off to look at the jet

oboe,
if you work the accelerator pump lever manually, is fuel being squirted from its jet, which protrudes into the carb throat?
If that's not happening, there's not enough fuel in the carb bowls.

cheers griif / ken

striped the carb ,gave it all a good blow out ,now its running good

got it all back together ,to go for a test run , put foot on clutch ,tryed to go into 1st gear and it just grinds big time ,and in all the other gears , dont want to force it into gear , as sounds like its going do break something

will having been sat for 14 months done something to the clutch ???

Sound like the clutch plate is stuck to the flywheel. Quite common when a car is left.

Try this. Sit in the car engine not running. Put it in gear [forward or reverse which ever way the car has some space to move] foot on the clutch, hand brake on, try to start engine. There might be a bit of a bang as it comes unstuck but that usually cures the problem.

clutch could be stuck ? will it go into gear with engine off? if so, does it start ok without jerking forward?

oboe,
almost there...
The clutch plate has probably rusted onto the flywheel, so there a couple of things to try, but you'll need some space for this first one.
Start it in first gear, accelerate to about 15mph and decelerate with your left foot holding the clutch pedal down all the time.
The more 'kangarooing' the better.
Repeat as necessary until the clutch decides that it may as well play ball...
