Need and want is not the same thing. If the boy would like to strip his 2cv, let him. It will be a very good learning time and he need/want to learn.
Plenty of help here should he need/want it.
Time to learn about design and how to manage rust etc.
Go for it
Good luck

As I understand it is his only car which takes him to work and school. I doubt there is anyone here who has actually rebuilt a 2CV or two that hasn't experienced that "oops" moment as the structural rust started to crumble.

There are only two scenarios with his car. Either it is perfectly fine, in which case takling the body off the chassis is completely pointless and he ought to be spending his time rust proofing.

Or the body actually needs to come off the chassis, in which case he needs the time/budget/parts/tools to put the thing back together with a replacement chassis or floors or toe board, or boot floor or brake pipes, or any combination of those bits.

If he lacks any of those elements when it gets pulled apart it will descend from a useable car to a pile of bits in a matter of hours.

Sound advice. Seen too many people get into all kinds of difficulties. Whilst getting stuck in is a good way to learn, don't do it on your everyday car unless you have alternative transport.

Let the boy have fun. Playing around with a 2cv is school. If he get stuck, he has a sea of options, like getting someone to help or to send away for repairs.
You learn nothing by doing nothing. We need young people taking over from us old rats. Remember it is only money

Ha!!

It seems he has opened another can of worms !! :D :D

Anyway, James, you know where I am and as I say am no expert, but am going to do one very soon and have done several in the past. I have garage space and all the gear which you are welcome to use when Im not using it if you really want to have a play at your own car. As I get older I would love to encourage and help anyone do their own work. So agree a bit with Viking here, its your car, learn...but I wouldnt want to leave you stuck without transport if something happens !!

As you are coming over anyway, we can talk about it.

However I am just finishing off one project and then will be re-chassiying (that doesnt look right) the Red/White D*lly. So as I say, if you want to be around and see whats involved, and this is a full strip down, then you would be very welcome to come along and see if you want to do the same to yours.

Cheers !!

That's a fine offer, I'd do that James. Even stripping a scrapper down is a better idea than taking yours to bits without good reason. Plus John would probably be grateful of another pair of hands.

I wasn't refering to yours, I meant that purely for learning a scrapper would be better!
