 whats your m.p.g?

Post Re: whats your m.p.g?
I want to play this game but haven't got an A-series on the road.

However, and some of you reporting mid 30s mpg get ready to weep-doing the daily 12 miles round trip commute, I'm averaging 36mpg in my (19 year old, 190k mile) Land Rover Discovery!! 8-)

That's a whole lot better than I used to get out of my racer most of the time. Although, i suspect that may be because the racer was so hoonable.....

Not having a petrol gauge, I religiously fill up every 200 - 210 miles and put about 22 litres in when do.

Although I once put 24.6 litres in - I think I was cutting it fine

Don't worry, Sam, I've managed to put more than 26l in before without having run out, so you were probably OK!

My worst ever was 17mpg on a trip, stuffed four feet out the roof with body panels, with an engine and gear box in the boot, and various other bits tied ouside the body. The chap I had been buying parts from had said £100 for everything you can fit in the 2CV.

More normally though, 30-35mpg if driven like a loon, 60mpg if driven like a nun and the boot extension is on.

My old 1299 Dyane (matt Da Cotes on this forum) used to return around 18ish mpg with me driving, between 9 and 15 with the caravan on the back and 40 when Mrs Spanners drove it!

I suppose once again, because I have an A-series because I want one and because I can, I don't really take much notice of the "economy" these days. But, I've never found them that brilliant.

Except the time I was running one on a 50/50 petrol diesel mix......................

Like Terry says, if I want economy, I use the BX/Freelander/Discovery-all diesels and not one of them returns less than 35 mpg, the BX will still produce high 50s on a good day.

However, if I want smiles per gallon, I'd better get my arse of this computer and get on with putting the Ami back together etc.

Exactly what Jon says, if you want decent mpg whilst still getting decent mph then buy a diesel car.

What's the WORST mpg anybody has achieved? In one of the other 1299 dyanes Jon built I was getting 15mpg ish average, but it'd empty a tank in 45mins if you were trying.

AZU250 (602) does about 210 on a tank before i start to get worried ,= approx 45 mpg average ?
BX TXD estate 40mpg @ 85mph to 55mpg @ 60 mph average but it's a proper no frills diesel .

I can't do mpg figures at the moment 'cause my speedo cable isn't very well. (so I disconnected it) I like the concept of smiles per gallon though, which is what it's all about for me. The only thing I can add is that by plonking in an old heavy flywheel I reckon the mpg has gone up, simply because it tempts you into rolling along on hardly any throttle while watching the scenery shuffle by.

I know that anyone can d this, but there's something about the engine characteristics of the old heavy flywheel that makes you want to. There's no point me quoting MPG figures though as I'm not mathematically inclined, I tend to know if a tenner lasts me 'till Thursday or not and that's as accurate as I follow it.
