When I bought the Ami, the original gearbox sounded like a cement mixer loaded with broken glass. Russ was very honest and upfront about this, I should add, and threw in a later drum brake 'box and a spare early gearbox. I thought I might as well put the later 'box in and get rid of the silly static release bearing in the old gearbox, little realising that everything is very very slightly different. I've sorted most of these things, and I thought I'd sorted the clutch cable, but as it turns out, I hadn't and the problem isn't in the length of the cable but in the amount of travel in the clutch pedal. Hence my separate thread pleading for a set of Ami pedals. :)

Oh yes, I'm actually pretty upbeat about the whole thing now. I've done most of the hard work, just awaiting the arrival of an Ami 8 pedal box from Paul, AKA 602. I don't think an AMi 6 cable would have helped: the issue seemed to be that the later clutch arm needs to travel through x degrees to operate the clutch, and the earlier pedal provides only y degrees of travel, where y equals about half of x. :D Hence my troubles, which with luck, a more modern pedal box will sort out.
If you ever feel that you want to do the same job on your Ami, getting rid of your static clutch bearing woes for ever, drop me a PM or something as I've learnt quite a lot about the process over the last few months ... :ugeek:
