£250 seems very reasonable too given the amount of un obtainable shiming going on and the fuck-up potential.

You get what you pay for, normaly.

Most European rebuilt gear boxes cost around 700 euros. Why? Rip off do you think?
Ask the D model folks, they pay double.

I idly wonder how long it took Citroen to originally assemble the boxes?

Many someone would have the times from the ''original'' recommended work shop times, Citroen dealers charges for gear box works. My guess is min. 20 max. 30 hours

I was about to say exactly the same thing, Sean...

I bought a dash moulding for the Mehari a while back. Checking the prices on the websites now, I find...

Cassis public price - €302
Cassis "club" price - €212 (I can't find how much they charge for "membership" on their site?)
MCDA price - €117

Out of interest, Viking, how much do you reckon the parts would cost to do what you'd call a full refund? When you say it takes you 2 days, how many hours are in your day? Does anyone know if Citroen published an invoicing time for the job?

Do not doubt any of it for a second. My point is, stripping the lower pinion replacing the front bearing, getting the end-float spot on is time consuming.
Getting the correct pinion deepth etc etc takes time.
What about stripping the crown wheel rebuilding it correctly? It takes ages.
Doing all this is for me a proper rebuilt (recondition) anything else is merely a repair job. Yes pulling a gear box down to minimum, replacing a few bearings (not interupting the original set up) and putting it back together again is fairly quick but not a rebuilt.

I'm sorry but why does it take ages!! Don't you know what you are doing or why. There's almost nothing simpler then aligning crown wheels and pinions.

And yes I know what I am talking about, done several gearboxes (made my own sahara gearboxes) and my own Mehari 4x4 Even a Mehari 4x4 takes you no more then a day to rebuilt and align front and back end.

The only thing I want to tell a 2cv gearbox is no rocket sience.

So I think for 250 quit you can rebuilt a 2cv gearbox and put everything which is worn new in it and make it run another 200.000km.
