Just like about 2/3 of UK-reg cars over on the mainland - and a similar proportion of non-UK-reg ones here.

I'd say it's <bof!> time...

I've no idea what he meant either, but he did post at 6.02pm. We'll done Chappers, obviously the teabagging's not gone to your head. Good luck Joolz - everyone wants your motor to be on the road. I've got everything crossed.

Joolz,
maybe forget about those swage lines for a while and get stuck into the boot floor/rear valance and inner wing/bumpstop areas with the welder? ;)

Lash out on a new front number plate as well, then check those kingpins ( as you're probably well aware of how much UK MOT testers just love 'em to bits ) and that should be it. 8-)

You make it sound so simple. One of the kingpins does have a bit, I would have said acceptable, amount of play, and seeing as I've got a kingpin kit here I guess it'd be foolish not to change it. I'll add it to the list.

That's a great myth that is. ]

Thanks for the clarification, Spanners. I am pleasantly surprised. I'd have thought, with the way all MOT stations have their information passed directly to the DVLA/VOSA (or whoever!), that the 'fail' would be recorded, and that if you were subsequently stopped by the cops this info would be instantly accessible by them? Quite helpful if it isn't!

Joolz,
I'd guess that if the MOT tester can see you've taken things seriously and made the effort to address any potential problems, then he's less likely to exercise his discretion in a manner which will result in you not being a happy bunny...

+1

In my experience an MOT tester is also less likely to exercise his discretion when the car looks tidy. Stuff like the hole in the back panel is plainly visible to any following police car. No MOT tester wants to have to explain to the ministry just why they saw fit to pass something that is questioned following a road side tug. That may be unfair; but it is after all their livelihood.

It may not say so in the tester's manual, but cars do fail on being unsightly.
