sounds like an easy job for someone who knows there way round a 2cv,

ok so i looked under the car, i understand what you mean and i simply wind them out.....

but its not a 9 or a 10mm i could find, found a pin i think (hard to tell as it was coated in wax oil) and it had a split pin through it, i did try and clear it off best i could but it was hard to tell.... i tried to see if a 10 would pick anything up amongs the wax oil

I take it you have a Haynes manual and have read the instructions? No? Look again, half way between the spring box and the tie rod eye you will find flats on the tie rod. find a spanner which fits - I mentioned 10mm from memory but it doesn't BW matter. Find one which fits and wind it, and the suspension arm will move. You don't need to 'know your way around a 2CV' nor to be literate, just put the right spanner in the right place then turn. It really is one of the simplest jobs to do on a 2CV, believe me.

ok i did see the nuts on the middle but as i wasnt looking for them as such as it didnt cross my mind for some reason, and ive read the instructions many a times, im not as thick as you may think try not to laugh at that one! im a mechanicaly minded person i just cant get my head round it il get there in the end!! and by winding in it goes higher, so i wind it so the track rod gets shorter (by winding two nuts in?)

Nuts? I don't know what nuts you mean. And I'm not going our there with my camera wearing a dressing gown to photograph the things. You should have flats halfway along the tie rods. With the use of spanners/Mole grips, they can round off so I shall buy myself the ECAS hexagon tool if Roy brings some along to the London-to-Brighton event.

nuts - yes 2 19mm just at the end of tie rods, no im not exspecting you to do that dont worry,

ok so i un wound the 2 nuts or which ever but then you cant unwind the the track rod without taking it off.... is my car uniquly different or am i missing something
so these two nuts, un wound them up the thread but, and then it gives the track rods the room to travel along the thread but how to get them to travel along the thread, spin the bar thing from tie rod to spring thing?

The only 19mm nuts are on the shockers, not the tie rods. To adjust the suspension you don't need to touch the track rods, not for a simple and minor adjustment. You need to Jack up the side you're adjusting, stick it on stands, if it makes it easier, take the shockers off. Read the suspension thread, there's a rod from the spring can to the arm, you don't need to take anything off, just screw it into the shackle on the arm to raise it, or out of the shackle to lower it. It really is that easy. As I said, you're welcome to drop over Sunday and I'll run through it with you,

It's just dawned on me, the 19mm nuts are simply locknuts, only fitted to a few cars, none of mine have them. If you undo them the tie rod won't undo or move anywhere. It will be possible to adjust it now you've let the nuts off.

yes i may have to drop in sunday as it sounds simple but when everythings covered in wax oil it isnt so easy! what time are you around on sunday? in chichester? that would be a grate help, thanks, i got right under the car and just had a look, it confused me because the two nuts where right up at the track rods and i couldnt work out whether i had to undo the nuts then spin the rods or the hole thing or what so may be easier if you could spare me 10 minutes

also after seeing your next post, yes i let the nuts of and thats where i got stuck!! so i just put a 10 9 mm or what ever spanner on there rods and wind at me leisure and they should travel up the thread.... sounds simple, althogh nowing how my luck is going ill still get confused
