 Re: Secuity - kill switch?
I have actually just got around to fitting the Beige Beast with a kill switch and I was being a bit thick before....you only need to run one lead from the points feed, where it attaches the coil, through the bulkhead to a switch and another lead from the switch to earth - effectively sends the feed directly to earth and none to the coil - very simple, you dont have to cut any wires and if you use a nice old black piece of wire and attach it via the female socket of the points wire underneath the coil, is very difficult to detect. I know clearly a dummy trying to steal a Dyane may have little idea of how to open the bonnet, whereas a 2CV bonnet release is a little simpler, but disguised suitably it will save you disrupting any of the original wiring....NTB

 Re: Secuity - kill switch?
on outboards, its more of a saftey feature than anything, but you could do something similar,
i cant remeber excatly how its done, but if i remeber rightly, the switch earths the points, so if you put a switch from the points to an earth, through a switch, when the switch is of it wont spark...
on outboards they have a "kill cord" which when pulled out closes the switch causing the outboard to stop... one way to do it?
sorry if already been suggested

 Re: Secuity - kill switch?
A couple off months ago I must have dropped my keys in the street near where I work as I had looked everywhere else.... I left my car near work ready to come back and sort out the next day.... Early the next day I got a phone call from my boss saying he had found my keys... in the ignition, a few hundred yards round the corner from where I parked it straddling the pavement! Thing is tho' I had planned for the worst case scenario and removed the spark plug leads and disconnected the battery, just in case someone had found them and was coming back for a bit of 'fun' later! So even with the keys/hot-wire and no sign of life the dumbest of joyriders (rather than semipro-thieves!) will try to push start it! Least I got Bubbles back! But with a mashed up bonnet and fan housing and a buggered rear bumper!

Well I had only one key for that ignition lock and was going to pinch the one from my other 2cv but ended up just 'borrowing' the fan, grill and bonnet (temp till I bashed out the dents and repainted the spots on mine).... That and couple of little niggles on the engine made me do the whole hog on a 'new' drop in engine, you see in the fan thread, that i was going to get round to 'sometime' anyways! Never let the buggers get you down! Rebuild better!

 Re: Secuity - kill switch?
just cuasually driving, as you do
had a thought
there is i geuss 4 wires for the ignition, or 3, your live, then start and off
surely the wire that kills the power when you turn the key to stop the car, if you put a secret switch of that wire and hid it, under the sttering wheel or somewhere or maybe even in the dash, hide it as a casual switch, then you could do that, save having to faf around a bit?

 Re: Secuity - kill switch?
yer but sum dufus could be tempted to hotwire it in the first place, look down and see that the wires are off and would probably be pleased that youve saved him some time..
i think a secret switch in the power to the ignition would do it, i would say to the starter but then you could probably start it by hand where as a break in the ignition = dead as a dodo

 Re: Secuity - kill switch?
Not so much for security, but when I leave the car I like to leave everything disconnected. Also if something happens whilst driving I want to be able to cut all the power. So, does this: Go in-line on the positive or negative battery lead or does it not matter. If it's the positive, I connect one terminal to the battery and the other to the loom/starter/alternator, yes? Basically moving the wires off the battery terminal and onto the terminal on the isolator.
