Always a good idea to use some type of "Tyre Shine" on the walls, which has a UV block additive(also keeps the rubber from going dry).

Any link for that...?

In theory any Michelin tyre dealer should be able to sort it out for you, in practice they're somewhat reluctant to be any help unless you bought the tyre from them in the first place and have a reciept.

Crazing on the corner between the side wall and tread is likely to be caused by prolonged exposure to UV sunlight. Tyres on one side (the sunnyside where parked) are invariably effected more than on the shady side. The condition usually appears on older tyres. Anything older than six years and the manufacturers don't want to know. Hairline superficial crazing may be passable for an MOT but anything "big enough to put my little finger in" is positively dangerous!

Must do that on the 2cv.

The mehari was stored in a garage from 98 through till 2008 (on stands) hence I think they may be original, I'll go check the dates during the week.

I can't believe there are people out there who have the time to polish their tyres. :D

Checked my solitary michelin 125 today and there was a bloody great split on the side wall almost where it joins the tread. Straight on the blower to ECAS for a pair of toyo's. I can't post a pic as I'm on the iPhone but it's on my facebook (tweetdeck photos).

Just checked the photo and I was wrong, the split is on the side wall, about an inch from the wheel and probably about ten inches long.

Like this? I noticed this a couple of days ago on mine although the tyres are at least five years old.

No sorry at the other end of the sidewall, nearer the wheel.
