I very much doubt you'd be killed, so use the £250 to buy a decent trolley jack.

Its a silly idea. But why not try reversing over the ball and see if it lifts the car up like that? Then if it pops, the car will just bounce down to the ground. If it stays up, change the offending wheel. This is a very silly idea, don't do it. Buy a trolley jack they're not too expensive, I've never regretted buying mine, no more sill ripping paranoia.

Fit a towbar and use the original sill jack on that. In order to gain enough lift, you'll need several pieces of wood/bricks/shoes to stand the jack on.

I've since spent 50p on a scissor jack at a car boot sale ;)
