I've had two of the standard sillbender type break, both of them failed at the spotweld. I won't trust another!

I've never used one since I had one go through the sill of a 1975 Dyane ....in 1980 :!:
I've got two brand new ones in my garage. :!:

I also would never use the original jack especially as I've heard so many bad reports about them.

I've also noticed that the recent/current ice and snow has brought out a rash of potholes, some very big, a real hazard to cyclists and motorcyclists too, so I hope you do report your one, that they fix it promptly and you get compensated too.

Sam, for home use we've got a decent trolley jack, but of course it's big and heavy, so for carrying in the car I've got a Halfords bottle jack. It's compact and light, but I do also have to carry a small block of wood with me to be able to lift the rear wheels off the ground.

Exactly what I have too. A small yellow bottle jack? I couldn't get it to lift the car high enough as mine only extends to a total height of about 12". Maybe my block of wood's too small

I have a scissor jack that works fine for both front and back when put under the spring mounts.

As an ex-Plod I find it difficult to understand this story at all. There must be much, much more to this that hasn't come out. Perhaps (playing Devil's Advocate) that he'd been riding like an idiot just before the crash and the pothole was almost incidental? Who knows? As usual not enough of the story is told which just bring the Police Bashers out. All I know is that when I was in the Job, and bearing in mind none of us have the full story, a typical one-vehicle, injury RTA would have been dealy with differently. Pocket notebook entry and Accident Card. But the Police v CPS blaming each other doesn't look good, does it?

this is easy to fix - just get a hammer and bang the rim back into shape then pump the tyre up to pressure and squirt soapy water around the rim to check for leaks, if it does leak air bang it some more ;)

also i've heard you can screw in your suspension on the tie rod and lift the wheel off the floor and drive on 3 wheels, not sure if this is true or if it works tho :?
