This is Milongaman's wife here. (Milongawoman)
I am doing the interior bits on our Beachcomber. I am very competent seamstress but have not done a car interior before.

I have several questions:

1. I saw a car at a show that had the interior door cards and seats made out of what looked like a Duck Cloth Fabric. (woven cloth/ waterproof canvas feel about it.) Does anyone know where I can buy this type of fabric?
2. Does anyone know if there are patterns 'Out There' for the interior top lining above the doors and back wheel well.
3. What type of fabric is used to the interior top lining? Again, where can I buy this?
4. Currently the car has a grey felt type fabric (With lots of Excess glue over spilled) Should I remove this or use it as insulation and put the new piece over?
5. What is the best way to get rid of the old glue overspill on the paintwork?
6. What is the best type of Glue to use to attach the new lining pieces?
7. Would also like to make a 'stylish' back window tray out of the duck type fabric. Anyone know of any good patterns to do this?
8. I also have a 'newish' replacement roof. When it is hot, the side plastic edges come away from the canvas. Does anyone know of a good glue to use that won't melt in the (British) heat.
9. Can anyone reccomend and good books / or websites on 2CV interiors? (I have "How to restore Citroen 2CV) Very good, but I am looking for more on the interior 'pretty stuff'....

i have the interiour roof lining that goes above the doors to the rear (Boot). It is a little tatty. It could be used as a template for your new ones. The material is a smoothish grey felt like. I don't really know. I also have 4 door cards in grey but i am waiting for my new car to arrive so i can seee what they are like in it.

i use spray glue in a can. That works well of the interior lining above the doors.

Thanks for the info & kind offer of the liner, I was able to get a liner for a pattern, now just trying to figure out what type of fabric I want to do it in.

The Spay glue method seems like the way to go. I'll post pictures when finished... May take a while though.

I seem to remember many moons ago my my mum replaced the lining with carpet, doing much what you are, took a template from the original, then cut it out of carpet and fixed it in place with liberally applied evo-stik.

To remove the remnants of the old glue you can probably pick it off with a sharp blade but it might be easier to sand it off with fine wet and dry and cut/polish it back, I can't think of any other ways of removing it!

Has anyone got a template of the headlining shape for the material which goes inside the bodywork that I could borrow?

Even if its a copy cut out of newspaper or something that would be fine.

I bought some nice black soft lining stuff, and some spray glue ages ago but never got around to fitting it and in the meantime the original headlining turned to dust and fell completely to bits! I did have a paper template but that was a few house moves ago and I can't find it any more.

Hi Mrs M. The rubber backed canvas material you mention is what I used on my door cards. I bought mine @ £5.00 a metre from a local market stall specialising in various materials. They also stocked the new foam for the seats. Check out market stalls before buying from specialists, you'll be surprised what they sell.




I took out the original felt and drew around it to make my own pattern. Then bought new grey felt to remake them. (same market stall again) The grey felt alone proved too flimsy and needed backing before fitting, but backing it caused it to wrinkle when fitted. Exposing it to steam after fitting makes those creases disappear however.

The glue I used was spray on and is a bugger to get off paintwork so best try not to get it on. If it does go where it shouldn't (and it usually does) I found T-cut removed it from paintwork with a heavy rub. I'm sure there's a solvent around that would do it easier, Acetone perhaps?
