As above, I can't get the bloody thing off - its solid onto the shaft.
Any ideas? Don't want to keep banging away at it in case i damage the shaft.

 Re: Fan stuck.
I normally put a 3/8 long extension bar into hole and give it a sideways knock.

 Re: Fan stuck.
Spray some WD40 down the tube and leave for a while then use a bar - end of a 1/2" ratchet fits almost perfectly down the hole and initially jerk the car, sorry, van, up and down by the other end and usually when you then give it a tap left to right horizontally, it will come off....

 Re: Fan stuck.
It might well be rusted on, mine was very tight the first time I tried to get it off,I too was worried about belting away at it. I made sure that the bar or whatever you are using is a snug fit then tapping it in the manner already posted should shift it. I put a smear of grease on the taper to ward off rust. Mine now pops off without the force I first had to use.

 Re: Fan stuck.
If beating the mothers out of it doesn't work (and it probably will) 2cviking sells a nifty device which replaces the bolt (iirc) and winds the fan pulley off with no effort.

 Re: Fan stuck.
Rather annoyingly, it was only off a few months back for a Sean-based tune up. It got a good smear of copper grease that time and this, so hopefully when it comes to NEXT time, it should be easier Russell, I can't find what you were talking about on Viking's website. Do you have a link?
