Post 1st gear terrible noise problem
Guys how are you ? Long time long see ( which means that i am happy that the 2cv running well ) .

But today suddenly i get down to get it to the garage and when i put the first gear it was makeing a terrible and loud noise.

Then i get the reverse gear were everythign looked nice and daily..! Then again the first but same results . Terrible noise and it feels like kicking . After that i just put the second gear but again there were everything alright .

What is happening giuys . I can imagine withmy poor knowledges that something is wrong witht the first's gear sprocket . Is it possible to be only that or it is something that affects all the gearbox systeem. .

If it is something simm, plel is it possible tp get the gearbox out without the engine part ?

The solution to whatever it could be is a simple thing or do i have to take it for service on a citroen service store .

Have a nice night guys and i am wishing me to have a morning with good ( as good as they can be ) news.

What happens if you select second gear and then move the lever to first gear?

Thanks guys for the replies . Here come the bad news.

In the past during a timing adjustment a drill has been broken in the flywheel.

It was stacked there for several months but now it isn't. The problem is that when i tried to take it out it couldnt move forward.

Now I just came back from the car. The noise is there it is periodical like something metalic hits something metalic it doesnt matter what gear i have before ( i tried to put 1st after the second it was the same) and the clutch seems to work pretty well.

So first of alll Is it possible for the drill to entered the gearbox ? If not what else could it be . If it was something wrong with the clutch should it be with all of the gears ?

Where should i start from guys ?

edit: something else that was happening the last days was a difficulty on putting the second gear .

It would not be possible for the broken drill to enter the gearbox.

Front bearing on the gearbox may have disintegrated. It makes a terrible screeching and knocking sound in first, second and top gear, but third is ok. If that has happened the gearbox will have to be rebuilt.

Hopefully yours may be a different problem.

I drove the car for at least 20 meters to check the second gear . No sounds there . then i got back on the first one and the noise was still there . But the sound is what you ve just described .

Is it possible for the gearbox to get out without the engine part ? The rebuild of the geabox needs any special tools or is it somethign that i can do on my own here ?

You have to take the engine out first.

There is a part which can become unscrewed (commonly called 'unwound') in the gearbox. I'm not sure what the early symptoms are, but eventually the gearbox 'locks' up. If it is that, then it can be fixed in the car, if caught early.

Have you reversed the car vigorously recently or reversed up a steep hill? This can cause the 'unwinding.'

Rebuilding the gearbox is complicated and best left to an expert. Can you find another good gearbox in Greece?

Probably yes . But it would be so expensive that it is out of question. mConsider that before i bought the brake master cylinder from viking i called a guy here who asked me 150 euros for a second hand one. Same with the wipers motor . Second hand 120 euros...!

So from your say i understood that i get this unwinding problem . Are you refer to this one when you say that if i get this early i can fix it without taking out the gearbox ?

So what the hell ? Do i have to stop using the reverse ?

Take the top off the gearbox, no need to remove it from the car. I'm not sure if there's a 'how to rewind your gearbox' thread on here, but hopefully somebody can post a photo of the inside with an arrow pointing to the collar you have to screw back on and peen.
