Post Cold running issue
When I first start the car, from cold after a second it will run really really rough, however far out the choke is,
If I let the revs drop too low then it cuts out all together. I am pretty sure it's running one half of the 2 cylinders ;) when it does this,

After 3 minutes or so of uncontrollably rough running it's fine and good as gold.
Now., I'm going to bung new plugs in, check jets in carb and probably do an oil change while I'm in a productive mood, and do tappets (cold!)

Any other suggestions as to what else I could do or try when I do the above?

Ta :)

Yep,
check that the choke mechanism is functioning as it should.

There's a small tension spring which pulls the choke flap across the primary venturi on the carburettor when the cable has been pulled.
If that spring is broken, the choke ain't workin'.

ken.

Borrow a compression tester (if you haven't got one) and check each cylinder while you've got the plugs out . It takes two minutes and is not worth not doing, if you see what I mean.

Control the sparkplug gap, in winter it can be near .5mm in summer .7mm
when it is to big you won't get a decent spark......... and it will
run on half of 2 cilinders,
mine run then always
on 1 cilinder (Wallace this is less words but same goal)

Choke is working
Did a compressioncheck a month or so ago,
But do it with hot or cole engine?

I'll check valve clearances tomorrow when I change plugs and oil etc
Compression a month ago, 180 and 175
Which is good :)

Never had to use choke on A series once electronic ignition is fitted - either 123 or capacitor assisted type. Partial opening of throttle on start up and then pump it once started has always done it for me -sounds like it could be an HT lead issue - they get very brittle when cold and have a habit of leaking to earth via any contact point - wings, light bar etc, but get better once warmed up....

Ok

I've always wondered about lamination ignition, seeing as I burn out points at a fast rate
