Post regulator questions
right so after discovering just how much juice my alternator is pumping into the battery it was suggested i checked the state of the reg and adjust if necessary so that's what i did, well i tried to. i had Mr haynes manual out, and i followed the naff instruction, did what i thought was correct, looked and thought that cant be right so returned it to its original state, put it back and onto car. so should be charging 16v or whatever it was before (mentioned in another topic) so all's hunky dory, so thought id try do a voltage check just in case, so i crank up, the battery reading 12.6v before cranking, run engine, still 12.6 (well between .5-7) rev it, just the dame. i had connected all the correct wires back to the reg, etc, alternator is spinning fine but its not pumping juice into the battery

help!!
no idea how to adjust either, took some pics so that they could be of some use

Post Re: regulator questions
note, that gap between the wheel thing was after adjusting the gap between the points where that small 7mm nut and flathead thread thing was, after putting it back to how it was, with no gap, that thing returned to resting on the wheel

also not going to drive car till i sorted the lack of charging, just incase, cant afford to buy a new alternator  better dust off my push bike ;)

James,
the points gap needs to be adjusted with the moving contact pulled in against the solenoid.

Which being translated means that you need to press the spring loaded bit at the top down against the bit with wire wound around it whilst you're setting or checking that gap... ;)

ok rightyoh, the gap is the one with the thread and the 7mm nut? because when removing the reg first time, I looked at it and it was firmly against the ;point, and the sprung but you mean has that very thin bit attached to it, and was firmly against the wheel thingy which is sort of a cam type thing,

i shall gone pull the reg apart, again  and have a looksie

thanks ken

Stick it on the car, fire the car and watch. Have a play adjusting the gab and the cam too. Good luck. Don't forget your voltmeter

Right so reg needs adjustment
After re reading the above, this time I will adjust the points gap whilst pushing the metal tab on the adjusting arm
