I have disconnected the B, F and D cables from the regulator so the regulator is out of the circuit totally.
I have checked for earths on the dynamo itself on both the D+ pin (which is connected to a brush) and the F pin which is connected the the two smaller coil wires behind. I get no earth on the D+ until the brush rests on the copper. There is no earth on the F.
I then put a voltmeter between the D+ (regulator end) and earth. I got a max 2 volts. I then polarised the dynamo (the way 2CViking suggested) and the voltage has now come up to a max 4.8 Volts.
I connect the regulator back in circuit but there is no movement or sound from the regulator and my ignition light is still very bright.
Is it looking like the regulator does not match (it is some thing like NOSSO from Argentina) or will this not activate until I get 6 volts, in which case does it look to be the Dynamo...
Does anyone know of a good dynamo fixer that posts?
Cheers
Ian
PS - yes I have driven it not charging but not far, just wanted to have a go as I was waiting for a new fan to turn up and assumed the red ignition light stayed on as it has done since I bought it. Then when I could not start it, I asked the question
