Few were 60bhp. Even the Tigre "hot" engine in the 24 & PL was 50bhp from 850cc = 58bhp/litre.

An Ami-spec 35bhp 602 is 58bhp/litre.

The Toyota/Daihatsu three-pot engine in a brand new C1 is 68bhp/litre, whilst a current BMW 318i is 79bhp/litre - and just think how much electronics they need to put that much out...

So look at modern tech, not '50s tech. Ignore the Panhard lump - there's nothing much to learn from it.

Talk to the racing boys for the basic internal build and exhaust. Then look at the things they can't do because of the racing rules - fuel injection, forced induction.

A good N/A engine today is the the Suzuki Swift Sport that squeezes 136 bhp from a 1.6 - 85bhp/L - unfortunately, due to emission rules, the day of the N/A engine that revs it's tits off (this revs to well over 7000) are numbered with most high power engines going small turbo route like our Mito that gets the same hp from only 1.4 - 97bhp/L. On the Cloverleaf, the same engine develops 175bhp - 125bhp/L......and there's no need to rev.
