Post Voltage Regulator Wiring (Ken/Sean)
We have always had charging issues with the race car charging system and engine cutting from the master switch, whilst the dash is out I want to fix this once and for all - Help! can you tell me where what wire should go where from the voltage regulator - on the master switch it has the two main battery terminals and four spade connectors.

Many thanks - I am out about all day today, so sorry if I dont reply straight away

cheers

Water shouldn't be a problem here as the switch is inside the car, I had a look at Snett and the trouble is that the only way we could get the switch to kill the engine was to have the feed from the alternator connected to the battery side (naughty). There are wires connected to the smaller spade terminals on the back, but in the time available I couldn't work out exactly where they went, but needless to say they weren't having the desired effect. It's made harder by the fact that Simon's car has a lot of wiring for a 2cv racer, and very little, if any, of it is original.

:?: Am I right in thinking that to cut the alternator output the secondary switch(spade terminals) could be in line with the +ve feed to the regulator, or in the wire from regulator to alternator? Or alternatively the switch could be used to cut the supply to the ignition coil? Is there a 'correct' way of doing it? As it stands one of the switch terminals went to earth, I wasn't sure on the other.

Simon,
it's been a while since I've worked on the electrics of a racer, but I'd guess (or hope?) that you've got the type of isolating switch which has extra terminals to disconnect the alternator feed.

If so, you need to follow the wiring diagram which should have been supplied with the switch.
Something along these lines...
https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/pdfs/ ... ctions.pdf
which was found here...

ken

( I once took a racer out for a 'road test' under cover of darkness, in the run up to a 24 hour race at Mondello.
Just as I'd turned back towards home, with 3 miles of pitch black country roads to cover, the kill switch failed completely.
Talk about lucky, when the next car which came along turned out to be a customer of mine, not in his 2CV, but in his Land Rover with a tow rope in the back... )

recently covered
http://www.international2cvfriends.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=3181&hilit=voltage+regulator

may also be woth testing the brushes in the alternator and checking the copper tracks they run on any dark areas indicate where the brushes have been jumping at high revs
