Post rear lights - 'bullet' type on vans and early Ami
Hi there

Talking about the bullet shaped rear/brake lights on pre-'67 Amis and vans....

The bulbs on mine are so close to the plastic lenses, they are gradually melting them!!! A small spherical bulb would not be a problem, but I am finding it very hard to get these. So using a longer tail/brake bulb means it is almost touching the lense. I spoke to Roy at ECAS and he reckoned the bulb was going in the wrong way.....

1. the bulbs are lighting as they should
2. the bulbs are too protruding too far out - hence melting lense
3. someone has fitted a towbar at some point - could they have wired wrong therefore meaning bulb has to go (but work) the wrong way round

??????????????? :? :?

help! van peeps!!!

Ok, so when it comes to Van rear lights my reputation precedes me (i removed them...).

Is your ami 12v? You could try LED bulbs, they run cool, draw less power and have the added advantage that people will actually see them. Google 007 LEDs (they also have an eBay shop)

I'm guessing it's minly an issue for your stop/tail lights. The LEDs will plug straight in, you don't need resistors or anything - thats only if you fit them to indicators.

Brilliant idea - thanks Sam

It's only a problem with the stop/tail yes....

I think Land Rover lights are similar too?

Yep, you can use Landrover lenses, I have clear ones as indicators on the D*lly. They look a bit 'kit car' I think, but they're dead cheap, I bought clear ones for 50p each on eBay

Will, if they're any use to you I'm pretty sure I've got some Citroen bullet lenses in the shed. PM me your address and I'll stick them in the post for you. I've got some Land Rover ones as well which you can also have.

Land Rover lights on 2 2cv - is that "legal"?

In Denmark, the price of the Defender lights is a third, but still...
