Post Re: Identify a gearbox?
ahh ok, cheers :) i've got a spare gearbox, which came with Lily.. all them years ago.. it also came with a spare engine which was from a dyane and a load of spare bits and pieces.. all which were dyane... so i just assumed the gearbox was too! will have to have a closer look at it when i get the chance!

see above.
just in front of the splines is a plain bit of the shaft if there is a single groove in it its a dyane box, if its plain then is a 2cv.

I do it always like this, and it works:
Turn the input shaft (where the flywheel fits).
When you can turn it 21 times and the wheels have made 1 revelution it's a ami 8 or dyane 6 gearbox.
When you can turn it 23 times it's a 2cv 6
Can you turn it 28 times before the wheels are making one revolution it's a 2cv4 gearbox........
These are the most commen ones others are possible Mehari, aks400 but I don't now them out of my head. Then you got the old gearboxes with the gearlever at the end of the box fitted with 4 bolts you can do the same trick with them. The only thing about them I now of is that there is one gearbox frpm an ami 6 witch is even longer then a dyane 6 gearbox. Less revelutions

When you count put it in 4. Gear and make shoore both wheels are turning equaly...........

Good luck.

Ipgo,
are you sure that it's 4th gear, as 21.5, 22.3 & 28.7 turns correspond to 1st gear for each type of 'box... ;)

ken.
