Post Engine flush..... Is it a good idea?
I'm thinking of getting some of that engine flush stuff for my drummer. Is it a good idea? The car is 35 years old and had been sitting around for the last 17 years since it was last on the road. The oil has been changed a couple of times in the last few hundred miles but I just wondered whether giving it a 'flush' would be good for it?

Any thoughts?

A garage I know uses it sometimes to quieten hydraulic tappets, but I don't know how that works? Isn't a good long run at full operating temperature before an oil change just as good as a clean out for an air-cooled motor?

IMHO you don't really want to send a huge amount of rubbish through the bearings in one go. Personally I'd just oil change it and give it a few really quick oil changes at 400 mile intervals.

Thanks guys

Thats the answer I was hopeing for. I didn't really fancy emptying the contents of what looks like a coke can into my engine anyway!

I would not even start the engine, split the halves & scoop out the primeval porridge that's settled in the crankcase bottom and cook the oil strainer in hot engine cleaner before re-assembling - cranks are damned expensive and such a shame to give one an early grave, I suppose not quite so bad with an external oil filter!
