Post Re: RUST EATER
Well impressed with the door. The finish looks really good. Will you do the whole car or just the removable panels?
I am just starting to strip my car for a body work resto and am very interested in stripping back to bare metal.
Whilst i was talking to a friend in work about paint strippers,he gave me a phone number of a guy that is just starting a new business in Cardiff soda stripping.I have spoken to him about the process and have looked it up on google,it seems that the blasting process does not harm or remove any metal at all, which is good for such thin metal as used on our cars.
I have a spare door that he is going to test on and then give me a price to blast all the removable panels on my car.
I will post pics and let you know what happens(and the price quoted)

Post Re: RUST EATER
I have used soda blasting before to clean old carburettors and the like, which is brilliant because not only does it clean them, but you can simply flush all the soda away without worrying about bits of grit getting everywhere for years to come.

Just another point about the rust eater, I think there are two types, one which actually 'eats' the rust, leaving you with bare steel, and another type called rust converter or something, which doesn't get rid of the rust, but turns it into some black stuff that can be painted over. I think the things containing phosphoric acid are actually rust converters?

Or am I imagining all this? :?
