i need to get a non return thanks pete :D

Why a non return? A mechanical pump can't function without its own internal non return valve.

True 4x4's do have a filter in IN the chassis, heck of a job to access even on a ramp.
Valve works for me, now always have fuel in the glass filter.

Question
Do the pump valves only work when the pump is running?

Unless you've removed that one, that'll be the one that continues to catch all the crap - so needs changing...

They only open, to let fuel through, when it's actively being pumped. The rest of the time, they sit closed.

all the dodgy fuel pumps ive had apart its been crysatline crap around the valves, presumably water or other contaminants reacting with the zinc body and stuff being left over after evaporation if been stood for a while

so nylon filter before the pump, dont need to worry about damage as they are almost indestructable

Some of the 2cv cross racers run the fuel pipe inside the middle of the chassis to prevent it being torn off when off roaring or driving your car at the correct ride height.
