Post Cylinder head erosion
Greetings

Took the heads off one of my Visa engines- this is the 'good' engine.

Once I had cleared off the black crap, I found it had lots of pits by the exhaust valve seat and on the edge of the combustion chamber- just starting to eat into the flat bit where the barrel sits.

The exhaust valve seat is pitted too.

Is the head scrap or still useable?

Is that caused by pinking?

certainly looks like there was some. Its always at the edge opposite the sparkplug where the hump of the piston is closest to the head

That would have taken some doing on a Visa 652, considering that the ignition timing was set by Citroen.
Mind you, many years back I heard about some characters who locked in the extra 10* vacuum advance, reckoning that made the engine more 'lively', just as long as you ignored the resultant pinking, of course.
Now I think about it, they were based somewhere in the north-east...

I've got to look at all options- any chance of some pics of the heads you have got?

Heads are fine - with studs, valves and no erosion
