Re: 2CV shell on AMI 6 rolling chassis
lpgo, I agree with you on that. Still, MCC deliver a Mehari 4x4 chassis. Those car's aren't the typical back-yard project either.....
There must be a need for these chassis. Not just for the AMI, but the AZAM's are awesome! Some might need a chassis. Or maybe they(oh the horror!!) end up with a 2CV chassis with 2CV suspension.... Or maybe a van chassis, with the springs not correctly lined up.
Ken, I see a market here for quality chassis built by someone with the kind of detailed knowledge as you have. And there are no competition! Maybe the AZAM and AMI could have one "adaptable" chassis to share. Like bumper brackets, seat mountings and light bar differences.
Anyway....seems I have to take good care of the one I have under my soon-to-be 2CV. Or "AMI 2CV" as it will say on the back lid.

Did You take a look at the Price of the Mrhari 4x4 chassis.. I bet other chassis manifacturers must sell more yhen 10 chassis to get the same profit Casis has on 1 Mehari 4x4 chassis...

Re: 2CV shell on AMI 6 rolling chassis
'Fixed' canisters were used on Ami Super (and AKS400 from July '76), using tapered alloy cups to wedge the canisters between the carrier tubes on the chassis. If you study a cross-section through that assembly, a rear tie rod has more clearance before it fouls on a fixed component with this setup and even then, it's likely to have been the alloy casting which it contacted. Steel rubbing on alloy tends to be less noisy than steel on steel, plus you'd need to have used a mirror or an endoscope to have a look inside the bore of that rear mounting tube... chevrons2 wrote: Ken. As I mentioned, I didn't notice a problem when I put an Ami Super chassis under an Acad. I used the Acad axles but, as it was about 10 years ago, I don't remember whether I used the alloy spacers. Do you think that having moved the rear axle mounting 160mm back to the Acad position, the tie rods may have just missed the tubes? I would like to believe that I would have noticed if they were rubbing! Springs 2 by slcchassis, on Flickr

Re: 2CV shell on AMI 6 rolling chassis
3 or 4 years ago I bought an AZAM chassis from Mehari Club Cassis. It cost £500+. They didn't do it galvanised and it was supplied with the body mounting outriggers in a bag taped to it, I had to weld them on. It was painted black on the outside but peering inside it it was bare metal. After welding the outriggers on I taped up all the holes in the bottom and poured thined red oxide paint in it a swilled it around. When that dried I filled it with engine oil. After it had been in use a couple of years the drive shaft splines had become so worn that they 'locked up' when extended so they (original UJ joint type) were replaced with a set of later 2cv joint drive shafts. With the suspension @ full droop the grease nipple on the left hand drive shaft fouled the end of master cylinder... Comparing the placing of the pedal box on the Cassis AZAM chassis with the placing of the pedal box on my Citroen made AZU chassis the Cassis one seems to be 10mm further forward... I've not been over impressed by all this.

"set of later Constant Velocity joint drive shafts" but the reply function is changing '2cv' to '2cv' doh!
