Post Fuel Gauge not reading right
Hi everyone.

Got a problem with my fuel gauge but not sure exactly where in the chain the problem lies. The car currently has a full tank.

The gauge moves a tiny bit up to the 0 mark from the stop, so I thought it was the sender. However, when I short the connection at the rear wing to ground, it still only moves up to the 0 marker. Chucked a multimeter on and can see I'm only getting 6.6v at that connector at the back.

Pulled the dash off and I've got just under 12v going into the gauge with the engine off, and 6.6v coming out of it there as well, and the gauge moves up to 0.

Someone suggested measuring current there, so I connected the multimeter measuring amps after the gauge. I get 0.92 Amps, but gauge jumps to the maximum then, so isn't stuck or anything.

Seems to me like my gauge is duff, but wanted a second opinion first. If that's the consensus, does anyone have a gauge for a Club dash going spare?

Thanks.

If you earth out the gauge it should go to ful if its OK . That then points to the sender. You can split the wire where incomes up through the floor.

You can repair the sender l submitted a how to in the What did you sowing your A series today's on 14th April 05. If you search under authors under 'banjo' you will find the write up nd photos. :-)

If I earth it out it doesn't go full, just moves up a tiny bit. Seems my gauge is knackered then. (Although if I earth it through an ammeter it goes to full)

Thanks!

Make sure that the gauge casing is earthed.
