I am converting my 2cv to LHD. I'm about to put the body back on to the chassis but first I want to replace the back axle to master cylinder brake pipe. Is there a difference between a pipe for a LHD and a RHD. The existing pipe (RHD) reaches the position of the master cylinder although the pipe is not coiled here (the company who replaced the chassis many years ago didn't bother to coil the replacement). I assume the pipe is coiled at this point to compensate for the movement?

My confusion is because it appears that replacement pipes are available for LHD or RHD cars. Does anybody know if the route taken by a LHD pipe is different from a RHD pipe? Thus requiring a different pipe. Also, would a replacement pipe have the coiling at the master cylinder end or is this something that I would have to do?

Any comments would be gratefully received.

Steve,
a LHD 'front to rear' pipe is 3.000 metres long, compared to 3.050 metres needed for RHD.
The difference is entirely due to the fact that the inlet on the 3-way connector on the rear axle points to the left.

A coil is not needed, unless someone's cut the pipe too long... :lol:

Thanks very much Ken another mystery solved!
My confusion with the coiling was due to the fact that two 2cvs I bought from new in the past both had the 'coiling'. Good to know it's not necessary.

Are you sure that you're not thinking of the coils on the brake pipe which runs to the front brakes, since Citroen never put one at the connection of the front to rear pipe and master cylinder?
Between the bulkhead/firewall and the gearbox, there are 2 full turns of about 60mm diameter to cater for movement of the engine and gearbox unit on its flexible mounts...

Yes. That's it. I knew you couldn't be wrong and I knew there was some coiling of brake pipe in the area you described.
Being the plus side of sixty I don't know if I just imagine/make up these things anymore.
The missus is always telling me that I've got a terrible memory :o I haven't of course, it's just the detail I have problem with :roll:
