I've been meaning to do this one for ages. Anyone done it before? More info to follow as/when it's available.

I've done it twice (past two years) but can't drive so can't share the driving so neither of us are going this year. Shame as we were going to give John and Peggie Pailing a ride up this year.

It's a good laugh with good grub when you get there but there are never enough seats at Tan Hill, we ended up eating in the car with the dog last year.

I've been a couple of times, but not for about 3 or 4 years. There's usually a huge turn out, the convoy is split into smaller groups. The stop a Hawes is a nice time to catch up with folks, have a glass of mulled wine and mince pie and then carry on up to the pub. Even though The Tan Hill is quite big for a country pub, there is never enough seats and you can wait quite a while for a drink or something to eat. Good fun though. Well worth it, I think there's a bunkbarn at the pub now you can stay in after too.

Won't be going after all, I'm working and the 2cv will be in, having some work done.

Found it ok, good to see lots of cars but after a very early start seemed to be 2nd gear most of the way from Leeds to Hawes - due to slow speed, not just the inclines!

Pub at the final destination was overcrowded and rather too many clique-ey types for my liking (hadn't expected this with a 2CV!)

In future if at a loose end on the day with a few gallons to spare I would try to see and hear the cars coming in the opposite direction - rather like one of the best ways to enjoy a steam train is from the roadside/trackside, not cacooned in a carriage. Possibly have a chat in the car park at Hawes too.

Then head off down gorgeous Wensleydale to a decent pub or cafe, able to travel at my own speed! Or over to Sedburgh and the Lake District.

It is a bit clique-ey but the sheer number of cars makes up for no-one talking to you.

Can I also suggest that you go to the toilet before you set off from the start as it's quite a while before you get to the next toilet at Hawes! :o
