Raid Tan Hill 2015, Sunday 4th January.

Celebrate the New Year at Great Britain’s highest inn!
Saturday 3th Jan. Pre raid gathering.
On the Saturday evening before the event, starting about 8.0 pm, there will be a convivial
gathering at the Grove Inn in the Leeds City centre.
The pub sells a wide variety of real ales and has several times been voted Leeds CAMRA pub
of the year. Post code for Sat Navs is LS11 5PL
Sunday 4th Jan. Raid Tan Hill
The event itself starts early on Sunday morning at the Lawnswood Arms on the A660 Leeds -
Otley Road. Post code LS16 7PH.
The pub opens its doors at 8.30 a.m. to provide tea, coffee and bacon/sausage butties.
Having taken on sustenance for the task ahead we leave the pub at 10 a.m. and set off in
convoy on a 60 mile spectacular route through the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Along the
Wharfedale Valley, then Upper Wharfedale, through Langstrothdale, over Fleet Moss, at
1932 ft above sea level Yorkshire's highest road, down to Hawes, onwards over the
Buttertubs Pass, through Thwaite and Keld, climb the exciting Keld Bank and finally over the
vast expanse of Stonesdale moor to Tan Hill.
En route we stop in the beautiful Langstrothdale for a photo call and Hawes for a glass of hot
mulled wine.
Arriving at Tan Hill at aprox. 1.30 pm we have exclusive use of the pub’s heated barn, lunch
is available from a special Raid Tan Hill menu, there will be 2CV videos on the large screen,
and we finish at about 3.0 pm.with our famous free raffle and the handing out of certificates
and stickers.
There may be snow!
Every driver completing the route from the Lawnswood Arms to the Tan Hill Inn
receives a certificate and car sticker, with special ones for the oldest car and the furthest
travelled.
A midwinter trip to Tan Hill is always a challenge, whether it is on foot along the Pennine
Way, which passes the door, or in the relative comfort of a small, air-cooled, two cylinder,
French motorcar. With its 1 in 4 ascents, steep descents , narrow roads and the possibility of
snow it is not for the faint hearted. May the force be with you!
If you want to stay over on Sunday night after the event there are several options.
The pub has seven luxury en-suite bedrooms and also two bunk rooms sleeping 14.
You may also bring a sleeping bag and air bed and kip down in the lounge or on the floor of
the bunk rooms. Nobody will be turned away!
To book a place ring Tan Hill on 01833 628246 .
There is also accommodation at Reeth which is about 20 minutes drive from Tan Hill.
There will be some evening entertainment, quiz, folk music, etc.
