Well, after nearly 23 years of CCC membership I decided it was time to sample a CCC event...

I still find it amazing that anybody gives two hoots about some of the 80s and 90s era stuff Citroen produced, (ZX? Wtf!) but I suppose it takes all sorts. What's the atmosphere like at CCC events? I imagine its less staid and anoraky than their assumed reputation would lead to suggest?

They all seemed like very nice people. TBH, we didn't socialise with anybody else though, opting instead to go out and give all our money to some of Stratford's pubs (almost all of which were Greene Bloody King). Well, we really weren't that excited about the prospect of the on-site Bingo on the Saturday night...

I love '80s Citroens - I really want a GSA, a CX and/or a Visa, but the '90s cars leave me pretty cold.

All in all, I thought it was a decent, laid back, little weekend. A great warmup for Anglesey.

I had a good time and there was a real variety of great cars but as Jono says we did basically just create our own entertainment by playing a few tunes out the van and then going into town. But it wasn't really a 'party' type meeting.

I seem to be one of the few who actively fly the flag for 80s and early 90s Citroens - Visa, AX, BX, ZX etc. They might be considered dull or un-Citroenly but I grew up with them and they are definitely my era.

I'd actually go as far as to say that DSs don't do a great deal for me, I'd have a BX 16 valve instead please. Does indeed take all sorts....

Indeed. I can totally understand enthusiasm for vehicles in the sort of 'GS' era, it's a sadly overlooked period in motoring history. Everybody was trying something new or interesting (Alfasud, GS, Allegro, Ro80, just not Ford), it was the last period before vehicles all became built to the same basic principle of fwd, transverse engine, McPherson struts etc. There's a certain sad irony in that the most desirable car from the period, or at least the most valuable, is the Escort. The most old fashioned and conventional layout around at that time. I tend to view vehicles as tools, and like any other household object unless its of particular merit or noteworthyness due to either clever or unusual design or spectacular build quality I don't get emotional about them, but I do comprehend how it's possible.

Once upon a time .....In the early '70's ....driving [or owning] a Citroen [in the UK] was "different".
You had a choice of Dyane,Ami,GS or DS ,,,or something considerably older [and prob'ly LHD too ] ....
And then came the 2CV CX & BX....[and later,the LN ...does any-one rember the LN]
And then came Visa & AX ...
And then it all went "tits up" ..
