Hope to do this myself but it'll be a major trek for me. I'll have three ferry crossings and a 600-mile drive before I even get to Dover!!! Lol

Realised I woefully underestimated the distance to Dover. I should have stated 750-800 miles...ish.

Just booked a hotel and paid on-line for the French National. Now just have to get the car working again!

Could have done up until about five years ago. The ferry that travels between Denmark and Iceland via Norway and the Faroe Islands, used to stop at Lerwick. Shetland Council has shares in the Danish ferry company but the company did a dirty on SIC and removed the stop from their itinery. There's still a direct flight to Bergen though. :-)

I appreciate it's a bit early, but if you're thinking of going to La Rochelle in 2015, you'll pass fairly close to the fabulous Puy du Fou.

It's absolutely worth a visit, if only for Le Bal des Oiseaux Fantômes (sit near the top).

But it's particulary worth going there if you want to see how much (or perhaps how often) the English are villains in popular French history.
