We had a facinating guided tour as well as being able to wander around/through/in the craft at our leisure. According to our guide, the whole site is on a short lease but they are hopeful that they'll be able to stay. As he said, if they do have to move "how do you move two 178 ton dead Hovercraft?" Amazingly, they rely on donations and a volunteer staff, no full time people at all. No Lottery funding either, or similar. I thought it incredibly sad, not to mention rather stupid, that this country is happy to leave the preservation of this part of its maritime heritage entirely to enthusiasts with no Govt. support and therefore no guarantee of continuation either.
