 Re: French National 2010
The event opens on the Weds lunchtime, and is 210 miles from the chunnel. Given convoy speeds are a lot slower than "normal", and there's normally a big queue to get in when the gates open, I'd say you'd want to be doing the travelling the previous day and camping locally on the Tues night.
With that in mind, it seems pretty bloody silly to work Monday. So might as well just head over on mebbe Sunday (give those coming from the frozen wastelands north of Watford time to get dahn sarf on Sat'dy), and have a few days pre-camp somewhere in the area...

 Re: French National 2010
Wont really be so much a convoy, more a 'were going this way.' a scenic drive. Too much hassle etc stopping for fuel. eating etc.

 Re: French National 2010
haha dunno depends on if we mowed his grass first however i am not volunteering after last time
ok so im on my lunch and looking at options
miles are from port to camp (and averages) costs are on 2 people per car
Calais 245 miles Dover-Calais £56
Boluogne 225 miles Dover-Boulogne £36
Le Havre 86 miles Portsmouth-Le Havre £124
Roscoff 245 miles (didn't look at russ did and its same miles from Calais and ferries are cheaper from Calais)
Cheapest for me looks like Dover Boulogne rough costs £106 includes ferry and petrol once we get to France. (petrol is also both ways to the camp and back)

It's a short crossing, so no choice of expensive cabin or sleepless night in the lounge - but best of all, it's not Calais...

Unless it has changed since I last visited France, the departments along France's North coast don't charge Tolls on their motorways. And it is not really a free nights sleep if you have to pay extra for the ferry. I would only consider going via Portsmouth if I was travelling from SouthWest England. Miarke

 Re: French National 2010
I've not done anything other than Dover Calais before, I just fancy a bit of a change. I'm thinking Plymouth out and Calais return, I haven't booked anything yet, and i haven't really made my mind up. Heck, I haven't even got a car I could take. I'm thinking of turning my ami into a camper as I've started to collect bits to turn it into a van anyway, but I'm as fickle as a teenage girl so god knows what I'll actually turn up in, let alone how I'll have got there! Fill-a-train would be great if enough uk folk were up for it!

Hahahahaha... We went Portsmouth-St Malo. It was a choice between an expensive night's sleep in a cabin, or a night sitting awake in uncomfortable chairs in a room full of people snoring and farting.
