Popped down to Lerwick this morning. The drive down was hard going as I was driving straight into a strong headwind. The journey home gave me a good tailwind to make it much more enjoyable. Here's a snap taken on the Yell Sound ferry heading home this afternoon.

How does your car cope with all the traffic over salty water?

Not great, to be honest, but it'll be undergoing another restoration when I move back down to the Midlands sometime in the next year or two. Six years of Shetland climate has certainly taken its toll.

If you considering a restoration have a look here, not cheap but very good.

So the 2CV has been down in the Midlands since last September (sat in my sister's garage) and I'm currently looking at heading down on public transport (yeah, I know  ) at the end of this month, but clearly the ongoing Covid-19 situation is very likely going to intervene and stop me.
There are currently six confirmed cases in Shetland linked to a couple who returned from a holiday in northern Italy last week. The council has closed schools from next week, and one of the many events cancelled over the coming days and weeks is the bi-annual Shetland Classic Motor Show in June. Things are getting a bit mad. Stay safe everyone. All the best.

So I arrived in Worcester on Sunday afternoon and after a couple of hours rest I popped out to the garage to see if the 2CV will run. After reconnecting the battery it took less than half a minute to start and it ran beautifully. I took it out for a five-mile drive around Worcester with the hood fully open, then headed off to deepest, darkest Herefordshire for a 60+mile round trip on Monday. The only issue, which surfaced on the Herefordshire run, is coughing and spluttering on full throttle climbing hills. I've spoken a good friend and mechanic and he has suggested full-throttle on downhill sections to see if it'll clear any crud that could be blocking the secondary jet. I'll try that out on my next trip.

Been down to Bourton-on-the-Water in the Cotswolds today. Lovely drive out but somewhat spoilt by dodgy running still. I really don't think it can still be blocked jets. It really doesn't like maintaining speeds over 50mph/80kmh. No issues around town. I'll be heading home at the weekend and it'll remain in my sis's garage until I come back south in a couple of months (provided the country hasn't gone back into lockdown again by then  )
