Ordered a new pump from ECAS this afternoon.

When I fixed the current one the engine was much more responsive, especially on some of the steeper hills around here, when I wasn't getting that sort of performance prior to the valve dislodging, which suggests the pump wasn't working at its best before it stopped working back in November. After posting over on the 2CVGB forum, I was told it'll happen again. A few days ago I was pushing the performance on a hill nearby and there was a cough and splutter, followed by poor performance again. Just like it had been before November. It's like trying to drive through thick treacle. So I decided to buy a new one.

So after ordering a new pump yesterday, which would have been posted this morning, this afternoon I've been out for a pootle around the island and the exhaust broke at the weld around the front section of the torpedo. Typical!
Still, it sounds rather good.

I'm in a bit of shock here. The petrol pump has arrived! Only two days to make the journey from ECAS, in Staffordshire, to the northernmost part of the Shetland Islands. Well done Royal Mail, and thanks ECAS.

Just need to sort the exhaust now.

Just registered the car with 2CVGB's Disc-Brake 2CV Register. Has only taken me 16 years to get around to doing so.

Spent a couple of hours this evening fitting the brand new fuel pump and bodging a quick fix to the exhaust. I had problems getting the pipe to seal around one side of the non-return valve so ended up cutting a piece of the plastic pipe and using that to bridge the gap created by binning the valve, which has stopped the leak. I used a baked bean can cut and rolled to slot inside the two halves of the broken ends of the exhaust to bridge the break. Far from perfect but does a decent enough job until I get a new exhaust.

I'm booked on tomorrow night's ferry to Aberdeen and heading down to visit family on Sunday, but I'm using the Golf for the trip.

The fuel pump I've just replaced was bought in 2011. Having gone back over the thread, I see Ken mentioned at the time I fitted it that it'll possibly end up causing problems, as there was a batch of pumps on the market at that time which were crap. Having looked at both earlier, the new one is a Valeo brand and has Made in France stamped on it, which the old one doesn't, which probably means it's a Chinese special.

Been out and about in the Deuche today. Used it to commute into work this morning and took it for a pootle down around Uyeasound on the drive home this afternoon. Performing well, but I do need to get a new exhaust soon. It's not bad at the moment as the bodge is quite a good one and seems to be holding up well enough.

Bastard typical! Been a beautifully sunny and dry day so far, so thought I'd have some lunch then go for a pootle around the island. Just about to leave the house and it absolutely pisses it down.

The 2CV was registered new on this day 29 years ago. I've been out for a pootle around the island with the hood fully open today. Absolutely glorious weather.
