Hi Geert,
I'd doubt that it's 'sensitive', more like 'interesting' and also a bit of a change from car talk.
Oops... :)
It was your original post about trees on Shetland which prompted me to do some research and find out more than a few things which I never knew previously.

Mind you, this statement illustrates what a hard life it can be for trees up there.
"RAF Saxa Vord was further north than Leningrad, and on the same latitude as Anchorage, Alaska.
The station was named after Saxa Vord, which is the highest hill on Unst at 935 ft (285 m).
It holds the unofficial British record for wind speed, which in 1992 was recorded at 197 mph (317 km/h) — just before the measuring equipment blew away."

Sorry, I did not know that this subject is so sensetive.
Lovely country you have, if you have left the EU, I will move to your side of the Canal . Or even before you leave!

In the Citylab artikel, it is as if The Netherlands only exist of de Randstad and Drenthe, but the most beautyful province ( shire) is Limburg.
Here we still have beautyful views ,very much like The Midland area in the UK.
That is why I felt so comfortable as i lived there .
The Netherlands have a dense population, and industry and housing are claiming quite a big part of the available space, but it is not true there are no trees over here.
Mind you, you can't compare it with the UK.
It only stroke me that on Jonathan's picture were no trees at all.
If any of you fancies a holiday in Limburg :

@ Jonathan,
Trees, or no trees, via Google I traveled over Shetland Island.
It is a very nice area, I would like to visit if I could .
It might be a bit desolated in winter though .

@ Ken ,so good that there is internet , you can find out almost anything ;)

You would be more than welcome to stay at Chez Jon, Geert.

I work at the former RAF Saxa Vord, Ken. We have a RAF museum/exhibition which shows some of the damage caused by 'The Great New Year's Day Storm' of 1992. Two walkers on Hermaness had taken shelter in a wooden observation hide which was blown over the cliff, killing them.

By the way, Geert, if you do visit in winter, please do not do what my very good friend, Mark (Mark350 on this forum) did in January 2014, and come in a 2CV. He drove up in his 2CV van which sat outside for the 16 days of his visit, and we could see it rusting in front of our eyes!! It took such a hammering that he only just managed to nurse it home to Birmingham, and it was off the road for the following 18 months!!!

Salty water and salt in the air is not good for 2CV .
There was an AK 400 for sale , here in NL, parked in the open ,nearby our coast. I went to see it in september.
Next march I revisited the van and there was more rust on it.
It later went to a friend of mine and I saw it stripped down to the chassis.
It took quite a lot of time and effort to bring it back to a decent van again.
So in Shetland with the rough seas in winter and this water-mist I can imagine what you describe .

But enough talk about trees etc. lets talk 2CV again, that is what this topic is all about : My 2CV

Sorry to spoil your topic :(

@ Geert , no need to apologise for de-railing “my Car topic , our cars “are us’ both are intertwined , indeed I learnt new things about the Shetland Isles and Limburg via your link , would love to visit both , trees or no tress ,

Best Regards from Roco now retired living in a forest in a conservation area ,but originally a Jersey channel islander =ex surf board equipped Mehari owner, now at night I listen to Owls hooting and daytime the hammering of Woodpeckers and the occasional distant roar of a chainsaw ,

It might well be Drive It Day, but it has been bitterly cold all day, and it has been snowing heavily, non-stop, since 2pm. According to the BBC Weather App, it's just raining. Needless to say, both cars haven't seen daylight today.
