Yep, couldn't have planned it better if I tried.

I had put the car away before lunch, but decided to take it for another, longer, run this afternoon. I've also refuelled as I felt confident the car would restart on the recharged battery. It's sounds and feels so much better. The only down side to not having the manifold and exhaust blowing, is the fact the whining gearbox sounds far noisier now. Ah well, nothing's perfect, not least a 2CV gearbox with 255,510 miles under its cogs.

Used it to get to work this morning. On the way home this evening I popped down to the island ferry terminal to give it a good run. All fine and dandy.

Bugger! The little plate attached to the bottom of the driver's door window, that allows the catch to hold the window shut, has broken off. Window now flapping madly in the gusty wind we're having today.
Exhaust still gas tight though.

Time to get a nice pair of stainless steel ones from ECAS.

You can't buy the piece Jonathan is talking about. It's the sliver of S/S which is actually on the bottom of the frame.

Yes, it's not the spring-loaded catch screwed onto the door, but rather the part attached to the window frame itself, that the catch slots into. Think I need to find a short-term solution to allow me to continue to use the car until I can get a replacement window, which is the easiest fix.

I had one of those metal clips break, I put it down to using those wire clips and the wire forcing the clip apart ....the frame was well & truly rusted and no way was it gonna come apart to get it welded.
I thought about trying to "Araldite" it back on, but then I remembered I had a spare window in my garage.
....pictured here are two solutions I came up with to prevent it happening again,
1. A rubber suction cup on the end of the wire clip [its held to the wire clip with a small "tie-wrap"] .

2. And then I bought a pair of these.


The rubber wedges are [IMHO] far better, as the amount the window can be opened can be varied by sliding the wedge up or down the front of the door.
I removed the wire clips as passengers who were used to riding in my car continued to use them despite my protests {notably my wife, who will not, can not & shall not listen to "common sense" because she does'nt know the meaning of the word}
I left the rubber suction cups on the windows, it saves having to "bang" the window closed.

Oh, I get it now. I thought it only happened to me.
I bent out the bit of metel that was left and tucked the tab behind that.
Then I drove a car with sliding windows instead.

Haha, I had to take the wire off the passenger side too, so annoying! People kept pumping it to open the window...

So, as the tab fitted to the window frame has come away from the said frame, and ensures I can't securely close the window, I've come up with a short-term solution that involves a bit of the flap from the cereal box in my kitchen. I've torn off a piece of the flap and folded it over once or twice, and placed it on the bottom of the window aperture before slamming the window down. Window is now secure enough for the island I live on, but I wouldn't recommend it for a town or city down south. (By that I mean everywhere else in the UK)
