Shweet. I like the green, and the way it's not swoopy.

One of the best days of the year so far today. Needed to pop down to Lerwick to do a bit of shopping, so decided to use the 2CV. Hood fully open. Photo taken on the A971 NW of Tingwall Airport. You can just make out the road climbing the hill just behind the car, which I had just negotiated. It's a fair old climb for the Deuche.

Contrary to most people's belief that trees don't grow in Shetland, we do actually have several thousand, though mostly stunted by the constant wind and salty air. Here's a small group of good sized trees...... https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@60.27041 ... 312!8i6656

Jonathan, hope you're planning to plant a few.

p.s. For Geert...
The Netherlands currently shares with Ireland the title of Europe’s least wooded country—trees currently cover just 11 percent of its surface area.
However, things are looking up. :)

p.p.s. Any guesses as to who might have been the worst offender when it came to disposing of woodlands, ancient or otherwise?

Sorry, I did not know that this subject is so sensetive.
Indeed, many forests in The Netherlands are chopped down, but in most places over here there are at least some trees standing.
Fortunately I live in an area with trees and forests .
The other day my wife and I went to Groningen in the north of our country,
The only trees there were arround farmhouses, the rest of the countrysite was flat and at the end of the horizon a dike. How lovely is that :(
I always miss trees when there are none or just a few.
That is why I love The UK, I love the old trees you have over there .
Lovely country you have, if you have left the EU, I will move to your side of the Canal . Or even before you leave!

The diseases now affecting the UK oak population are very worrying. Ash trees too are having their own affliction. A bit scary really.

The oak is often thought of as the typical English tree but I believe it was a 'pioneer' tree and spread here from elsewhere. The Lyme etc were our native trees.

When I lived in the Uk in 1974 , Dutch elmdisease was the item.
Many elmtrees were distroyed then and I remember the NEC grounds where many trees were removed because of that elmdisease
I worked for Blakedown Landscapes , Belbroughton Road Blakedown, near Kidderminster for almost a year .
I enjoyed it very much .

I know Blakedown quite well. I used to work in Kidderminster ten to fifteen years ago.

Thanks for those links and the information imparted Ken. Quite interesting. :)
