Re: My 2cv
How old is your battery? And is your generator/regulator working ok?

Re: My 2cv
If you have mains in the garage, a (Lidl) smart charger does the job. If no mains, may be worth having a look at this https://www.maplin.co.uk/p/solar-powere ... lsrc=aw.ds

Re: My 2cv
Thanks, chaps. I think the battery is brown bread. It's got to be 6 years old at least, so time to get it replaced. I have lighting in the garage but no power sockets fitted. That solar powered battery charger looks good for most of the UK in winter, but we only get a few hours of twilight during the day up here in winter. I need a wind turbine battery charger.

Re: My 2cv
Was a decent day, weather-wise, today so decided to use the Deuche to get to work. Unfortunately, and not unexpected, the battery was as flat as a witch's tit, so I had to jump start it. I needed to pick up a work colleague so ended up doing about 7 miles instead of the usual 4 1/2 miles to work. I hoped it would be sufficient to put enough juice into the battery, but no. I needed to jump it off the works van this evening. The lights were bright, so the alternator is definitely shoving some power into the battery. I didn't try to start the engine again when I got home, but I'll see how things are over the weekend. I did take a drive down to Uyeasound before heading home, so that's a good 17 miles.

Re: My 2cv
Good luck with the replacement! Your post jogged my memory, when I got my 2CV back in 2010 it had and still has an Exide battery fitted from Banbury in Warwickshire? the car was in Mid Wales and had been for years. I charged it once back in 2011 'cos it had stood for 12 months while I was doing bodyshell repairs. The flamer charged up 30 minutes, usually a bad sign. It keeps on going strong, dunno what type it is(think it's 45 Amp hours) but all the info on the top of it has bailed out. Some batteries are stars

Re: My 2cv
Well, I borrowed my neighbour's voltage meter and connected it to the battery this afternoon. The car has sat since Thursday and the battery had just 10.1v. I jumped it off the modern and the charging system is showing 14.3v with and without the headlamps on, so that is a fairly healthy output. I'm popping down to Lerwick on Tuesday, so will try to find a new battery.

Re: My 2cv
Haven't got around to getting a new battery yet. I popped out to the garage earlier, and as expected, the battery was dead. I hooked up a voltmeter and the reading was 7.2v. I've never seen such a low reading from a 12v battery!

Re: My 2cv
Jump started the Deuche yesterday afternoon and took it for a run. I left the house a few minutes earlier this morning and thought I'd give it a try. It started without the need to jump it off the Golf, so I used it for the 4-mile commute to work. The car was left parked until the end of my shift at 4pm, and even though it did initially start, it cut-out and I ended up jumping it off the works van. On the way home I was passing the island garage so stopped and bought a brand new battery which I fitted on my return home.

Re: My 2cv
Surprisingly, though definitely, there is more umph with the Deuche since the new battery was fitted. I used it earlier today and on the rather steep Setters Hill from Haroldswick to Baltasound, it managed to keep above 50mph most of the way up, and stayed quite a bit above 40mph to the top. It has been struggling to keep above 40mph on that hill. It's also feeling smoother at all revs.

Re: My 2cv
The generator is taking less power from your engine probably.
