Keep the screws or put a piece of threaded bar (B&Q) with a wing nut from top to bottom…

Post Re: My 2cv
First post so I'll ask for your indulgence right out of the gate.

I got board with my previous ride ( a 1991 Figaro ) and longed for something easier to work on. As I showed the Nissan the question about any knowledge on 2cvs came up with regularity.

So I defaulted to You Tube for months of investigation. Gotta luv Oliver Pickard and Hubnut.

Pickings here in Michigan are pretty slim so I resolved to expect shipping costs from any where in the US. Found Erik De Whidt in Maryland and he help me though the purchase of a 1970 AK in Vert Tebesti. Burton rebuilt 602 and nicely rust proofed all around. So now I'm a proud owner of the only 2cv I've seen (not on a computer screen).

Now that Ive past the running in of the new parts I'm enjoying being more of a grease monkey than I have been for years. To quote Billy Joel " the things I didn't know at first I learned by doing twice". Put new vertical weather seals on the B post. Wrapped the first try 180 degrees off so good thing I order double the amount of those plastic rivets. Gaped the valve clearance on the third try. Love the upgrade Burton re-usable gaskets. Converted the boot to a hatch and got the "bamboo" decals fitted along with all the other regular maintenance .

Loving tooling around in this green snail and grateful for the support I'm Sure to need from all of you

Post Re: My 2cv
I've always fitted yellow tungsten headlamp bulbs in my 2CV(s) but as Roy at ECAS has pointed out, they're no longer proper yellow glass but are clear glass with a yellow paint applied. The paint burns to a brownish colour and causes a number of issues, so I've decided not to use those type again. I've just bought myself a pair of halogen bulbs from Retrospec Parts which have a yellow glass cover fitted over the bulb. I've had an email to confirm they've been posted, so I'll hopefully receive them by the weekend and see how much better the lighting will be. #MoreYellow #YellowItsTheLaw #IfItsFrenchItMustBeYellow

Interesting. Apparently yellow bulbs don't last long these days. Perhaps it's paint and it's heating up or something.

They arrived this afternoon and I've already fitted them.

Yeah, the recent ones are 'painted' yellow. That burns with the heat given off by the bulb and causes the topside of the glass to turn a brownish hue. That may create a 'hot spot' on the inside of the glass that accelerates the bulb's failure.

I'll be using the 2CV to get to WASPs 2CV meeting in about an hour. It'll be the first time I'll driving it in the dark since I fitted the yellow halogen headlamp bulbs, so it'll be interesting to see how much better I'll see.

We have these at local store, Biltema, and they give really yellow light. Can't say sure is they available any other stores, and do they send abroad? I like those, good color, and good light pattern also, and very durable even on my Dyane where alternator makes near 15 volts and lights have relays... Also have these on my Landy, they suit very well on older car...

Oh, almost forget, the price is quite good also, only 2,90€ each...

The illumination is much, much better than before, so that's a BIG plus. On the downside, I last used the car on Thursday and we've had some fairly cold nights and days since then, so I'm guessing that was a factor in the engine taking a lot of cranking (5-10 mins) before it eventually managed to start at 6pm this evening. It then took about half a minute before both cylinders were firing
It's less than 5 miles up the road to the Copcut Elm pub, on the A38 south of Droitwich, where WASPs met this evening, but that was far enough to sort out whatever that problem was. On leaving the pub at ten past nine, after nearly three hours since arriving, the 2CV fired up with ease and got me home without a problem.

A bit damp I suspect. The engine heat dried it out :)
