I've had yellow bulbs in 2CVs pretty much since day 1 (1997-ish), and I've never been stopped or had an MOT fail/advisory for using them. Should have told him "It's French mate, it's yellow or nothing".

I did mention it's French, and it's been like it since I bought it, even had them on my bleu celeste years ago! According to mr policeman, all French cars are built in France... Just shows his lack of knowledge really!

Yellow lights aren't illegal, nor are they an mot advisory. Maybe you were stopped perhaps for having them adjusted too high or more likely because you weren't in a standard euro-box and needed investigating

You are allowed to burst out laughing you know, or ask him what they were building in the midlands until recently? Or ask exactly what law you have broken? Section/subsection?

Just make sure your tyres etc are in order before you do, but if everything's A-ok on your car you can have some fun with coppers like that. Get your phone out and record it in audio. He'll tell you to stop recording as you can't film him under the anti-terror laws, but you're not filming, your audio-ing him. Tell him it's because nobody will believe what crap he's talking otherwise.
