Post New with AZ 56
Hello to all ,

I am French living in UK ,( South of London )

I am joining this Forum following suggestion from my friend Fer ( AZL 57 ) from the Amicale 5HP Forum

Here is a family portait : my AZ 1956 with her sister a 5HP Cabriolet 1924 ;
.

Image

My first car in 1966 was a 1955 AZ belonging to an old lady . It had been rarely used and provided excellent service and lots of good memories .

Here around Naples in 1967:

Some years ago , when I mentioned to Fer that I would very much like to find a similar one ., he told me that one of his Citroen friends in Holland was selling his 1956 AZ
This car had been kept by a Citroen garagiste in a village near Chablis for several decades in a corner of the garage as a future restoration project … which never happened .
When the garage closed in 2007 the car was bought by two friends from the local Citroen club who decided to restore and sell it .

The car had done approx.. 30000 km , was complete and in rather good condition ( no rust ); it was dismantled and totally repainted and refurbished .However main mechanical components were left untouched.

She was bought in 2008 by a Dutch Citroen amateur who kept it for 8 years

Arriving from Holland in UK 2016:

Now complete with a “ Radioen “ Continental Edison transistor radio,.: a gift from a friend who had kept it as a souvenir from one of his 2cvs !:

Welcome to the Forum. Sweet looking Deuche you have there. I'm also intrigued by the 5HP so please also do a little write-up about that too. I own a vintage car, a 1932 Morris Minor Two-Seater, along with my 1988/89 2CV. 8-)

Hi Michel it finally worked...welcome. Nice that radioen in the car. Needs some original hooks the hang it on. They were pertinax and spring mounted.

Many thanks for your welcome !

For Jonathan , here is a little photo -album of the 5HP

A C3 Cabriolet from “ Limousin.” ( Limoges region )

Image

Cabriolet on Long Chassis C3 of August 1924 ... Engine number is close to chassis number , thus is original.
Body number at the bottom of the door; ...

Image

... initially registered in Limoges, she remained in the area until 1980
Bought in 1960 in Limoges by an uncle of mine, it was used, from time to time, to go checking his sheep .

Image

Photo from the 60s: The first owner had her "customised" by a local craftsman as a "2+2 Faux cabriolet " with hardtop and additional seat for children ..
This was probably more comfortable, but not very elegant .
Her austere appearance probably kept away the young post-war drivers. The small 380mm rear wheels made it easier to climb the slopes of the Limousin area.

Image

The bench seat had been replaced by two individual folding seats allowing access to the rear.

Image

An extra battery was fitted; due to the extra weight, the braking being a bit "just", a reinforced handbrake lever was fitted as well as a fourth pedal to operate the rear brakes.

Image

Image

Having inherited her in 1980, a bit cosmetically tired but complete and in working order, I sent her to the body shop for a new paint job and to the saddler for a new hood.

Image

The extra holes in the dashboard have been filled in.
The brush mat should normally be black...

Image

After having spent many years in the Auto- Museum of Châtellerault , due to lack of garage space, she arrived in England in 2012;

Image

The Zenith 26 TH carb , works very well .

Image

... in good company, with my friend and neighbour Bozi’s Cabriolet , built two days earlier which also spent her life in Limousin .

... and here is my Wikipedia page on the 5HP ( nearly everything you need to know ! ) :
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citro%C3%ABn_Type_C_5HP
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citro%C3%ABn_Type_C_5HP
Thanks Fer; Do you have the dimensions of these pertinax hooks ?

Best regards

No helas, only the picture. It has a keylock type hole to hook it over the screw of the radios handle.

Absolutely gorgeous. There was a three-seater 'Trefle' present at this year's Pre-War Prescott in the Cotswolds, near Cheltenham. I spent a good twenty minutes chatting to the owner who had spent a lot of time and money on a major restoration. There are a few similarities with the 1928-1934 Morris Minor I can see.

To continue with pictures, here is " la deux chevaux bleue " :

Image

... a 1987 2 CV6 Special belonging to a friend living part time in France and England .

When I got my AZ 56 , he became a bit jealous and wanted to replace his uncomfortable Morgan with a 2CV ... blue as the one of his late mother .

By luck , on the Internet , we found a blue one for sale at a reasonable price ;

It must have been well maintained as previous owners were Rob Lamplough
( ex racing driver , aviator , restorer of cars and planes ) :
https://www.oldracingcars.com/driver/Rob_Lamplough

... then Hall and Hall , famous car restorer:
https://hallandhall.net/

Image

Apparently , initially she was used by Mrs L, then moved to the Hall and Hall car collection where she was exhibited in good company ! :

Image

A very nice car , but I prefer the AZ 56 !

MG

PS : By the way she needs a new : LOWER FRONT LEFT SIDE WINDOW FRAME SECTION -
I can find unpainted ones but not " stainless steel " ones ; Who knows where t ofind this ?
