Galvanic corrosion is the enemy, as I'm sure you know. I had an issue with the oil cooler a few years ago, and I wasn't even trying to undo it! |

Been said before ... Oil cooler pipes can be repaired is 10mm compression fittings. Crew fix COMPRESSION EQUAL COUPLER 10MM (37293) |

My oilcooler was eaten away by 25 years of street salt. When i wanted to clean it with the pressure washer all the fins crumpled... I have now a painted version. But the bolts came loose without no trouble though... |

If the flamin' engine hadn't been seized by standing too long and not turned regularly, I probably wouldn't have started to strip it. I've only ever stripped/rebuilt that 425cc. The Ebay Dyane one is still in bits and the crankcases are corroded where it sat on the earth for ages.  P1020298 by Robndaisy, on FlickrProbably still ok to use, unlike the gearbox , but I'll use the engine and box that came with the car and I need to learn how to put a 602cc. back together properly and if that means having to repair the oil cooler then that's part of that learning curve I reckon.

If you re-use the oilcooler be shure to clean it well on the inside. |
