Ahh! I see your problem ...
You don't need to do that. You could of just drilled some holes in the floor to let the rain water out!

Happy New Year folks,

getting too much fresh air from these vents because the thin seals have long gone.

Luckily Mike has put a technique in the club handbook, has anyone ever resealed these vents?

Car is running very well and is my only vehicle as the landrover needs a bit more work ;)

We took the dash apart. First the top cover of and then qou can release the nuts of the vents under the bonnet and take them out. Remove the clips should release moving parts.

I remember putting a lot of copper grease on the bolts and nuts so getting them out should be ok, I should have done the seals when I was re-installing.
The heater is pretty good and demists much better than the 2cv. ;) :)

I finally got round to sorting out the vents.

The kit I bought from Daras at Retrospec has good instructions for fitting news seals without splitting the casings. He warned that it's fiddly. I decided to split them. Drilled and prised out the rivets.

The louvres are held in by a pin with a nut and a pin with a spring clip. there are nylon washers each end.

Cleaned everthing and fitted the new seals, they're self adhesive and fitted really well. I used M4 bolts instead of rivets to hold the two halves together.

The units are bolted to the firewall with five square headed bolts held in the plastic moulding. One bit of the moulding had broken so I brazed the bolt to a stip and anchored it to the side of the casing. I refitted both of them and now I don't have to wear gloves when driving :lol:

Other news, had a major oil leak from the oil pressure switch, found a spare in my stash and it seems to have cureds it. Bought a spare. Was reluctant to start from cold, removed coil and ht leads , cleaned and waxed them, now it bursts into life whatever the weather and we have had a lot of rain. Today it is glorious but I don't trust it to hold.
The car is my daily driver and I'm finally pleased with it. The heater is much better than the 2cv, no so many draughts either ;)
