Re: '85 Charleston
The joys of approaching Winter over here . P1020773 by Robndaisy, on Flickr it's been reluctant to start so first a nice warm up, P1000640 by Robndaisy, on Flickr and then some wax polish and we'll see if that makes any difference before digging deeper. Also the flamin' brake warning light comes on after a good push on the pedal, even though the reservoir is up to the max

Lovely fire Can t see that warming/ drying the coil is the answer! Put it on the car, start it in the dark and look for tracking. Leads as well. My experience with them has been it will start from cold (if it works at all), but not when it gets hot if its damaged. Poor starting can have a multitude of causes though

Re: '85 Charleston
Warming the coil will increase the resistance of both primary and secondary windings, making it less likely to start. That's why some teams used to keep a spare coil in the fridge in the pits during the 24 hour race, with a quick swap ensuring an easy start after a pit stop... . Btw, that looks like one of the South American coils which were around some years ago, which proved to be of rather poor quality.

Re: '85 Charleston
Ah! I should have said drying it not warming it The coil was bought in 2010 and is indeed made in Argentina. Perhaps it's time for a replacement. I'll let you know if the wax makes any difference.

You can put the stove in the car... Have seen that in an HY camper from the 60s. It had it roof black from the soot at one side.

Re: '85 Charleston
Polished and fitted, a bit of choke and fired up straight away, hopefully that'll get us through the wild and wet Welsh Winter. A memo to myself, must choose my words more carefully .
