Post Re: My Beduino
The engine in the shed had been running badly and getting worse. I had checked for air leaks, and messed with ignition timing to no avail. :(

So, with having had the bump, decided to change the engine and do a few other outstanding jobs that would result in the car off the road. A friend has kindly made some space in shed on his farm for me, so I can leave things disassembled. :)

So the engine is out, and I discovered the the tinging noise when in neutral is because the thrust bearing retaining clip is missing! Ok then, probably a good place to stop for the day. I must have one somewhere, as I have another gearbox in bits.

So I get on my bike (which you may remember, I put back on the road to do work on the Shed), and am riding to my friends house (in yet another town) when the bike engine cuts out!!!! 'Oh dear!' I think as I cut across four lanes of traffic to get to the side of the road. Fortunately, I had some, let's call it 'pace' to not inconvenience other drivers to much. ;)

So I call my farmer friend, and he drops what he's doing (moving the horse trailer to get to the grass roller) and hitches up the flat trailer to recover me.

In the mean time, I'm waiting on a very busy road on the grass verge, and I'm watching all the other motor bike pass by (also withe some 'pace'), and I'm thinking 2CVers would stop (but they would not be driving with 'pace' ;) ) , when a bike slows and pulls in just up the hill from me. Yay I think, isn't that nice. :D I walk up and say hi and thanks for stopping, but its ok as my recovery is on the way. Oh, that's great he says, as I've just broken down as well! What are the odds?

Anyway, my friend arrives, we load the bike (250 kilos), get our breath back, and decide to take the bike back to the farm.

We unload the bike, my friend turns on the ignition and presses the start button and it starts instantly!!!!

So, an inconsistent fault, that's going to be fun.

Hi Erik

No, no bike thread. I mentioned earlier in this thread that Shedouin work had come a halt to put the bike on the road as a backup. :D Not that I enjoy riding it you understand.

Its a BMW K100 RT 1986

Not recent images :)

Its only 32 years old. :D

It's not clear what the rules are for bikes yet. I think I would mot it any way.

Thrust bearing clip found and fitted. :)

I am just getting over a horrible cold so not feeling up to doing much. :(

Started up the bike today, and thought I would let it idle a little. Walked away to move some stuff, and the bike cut out. I guess that's going to make the fault easier to find. :D

Bike still not fixed! I've remove part of the fairing to undo the fuel pipes to remove the fuel tank to get to the relays!

On the button, the fuel injection relay is activating, but not the starter relay. I'm assuming for the moment, that what causes the bike to cut out, is what is causing the relay to not function. I've made good any grounds as I find them.

On the Shedouin front. :D
I've sandblasted and repainted the tops of the tin shrouds.
Whilst that was drying and using the old gaskets, I got the replacement engine in place and got it started. :D

The plan today, is to install everything properly. 8-)

Also revisit the bike ... and check out the farmers 4x4 clutch!
